@arianaryefoundation: Ariana stopped having life threatening events in the car seat after we did this. We used the Hensinger Collar in Ariana’s car seat because of her cerebral palsy/low muscle tone. Without it, she couldn’t support her head or upper body on her own, especially during car rides. She would try so hard to sit upright that it would often cause her to choke or struggle to breathe. The collar helped keep her airway open, reduced strain on her body, & allowed her to ride in a more supported, relaxed position. I speak only for our circumstance. #cerebralpalsy #lowtone #disability #childloss #grief #pt #ot
People need to understand that there are exceptions to the car seat safety rules when it comes to medically complex kids and their safety needs

Special needs kids sometimes need extra accommodations even if it means going against manufacturer recommendations, whole the seat wasn't safety tested like this I'm sure it couldn't cause any more harm. I'm sure the parents talked with medical CPST's and found the appropriate solution

Sometimes the benefits far outweigh the risks, it's no different than being cleared to forward face early because a child is vomiting rear facing to the point it's becoming a hazard.

There actually are adaptive car seats that may support her better! Would you like a tag info about how to find a CPST with additional training in those adaptive seats?

No judgement just curious- did Ariana need her neck support when she was in a rear facing or just when she transitioned to front facing?

The amount of car seats that are meant for special needs children that do not work for the typical zero head control child is crazyyyyy

do you consider a neck pillow dangerous? but this precious child needed anything to help her live her life as best as she could.

I really, really hope you are able to get funding or insurance to cover a specialty car seat. I found a lot of wonderful options on TadPole Adaptive and I think they're worth looking into.
I'm sorry you're family faces so many challenges, her especially, but you're doing great!
