35 ¶ And Jesus answered and said, while he taught in the temple, How say the scribes that Christ is the Son of David? 35 ¶ Jesus began to say, as He taught in [a portico or court of] the temple, “fnHow can the scribes say that the Christ is the son of David?
36 For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The LORD said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool. 36 “David himself said [when inspired] by the Holy Spirit,
‘THE LORD (the Father) SAID TO MY LORD (the Son, the Messiah),
“SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND,
UNTIL I PUT YOUR ENEMIES UNDER YOUR FEET.”’
37 David therefore himself calleth him Lord; and whence is he then his son? And the common people heard him gladly. 37 “David himself calls Him (the Son, the Messiah) ‘Lord’; so how can it be that He is fnDavid’s Son?” The large crowd enjoyed hearing Jesus and listened to Him with delight.
38 ¶ And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the marketplaces,
