I was raised on Cabaret! Hands down my favorite musical. Just saw it in NYC. Very well done. But yes agreed with this take. 💯

Yes! I'm currently playing Helga in a production of Cabaret right now, and one of the biggest things that our director has had us think about is how our characters feel about what is happening, and how not all of us, arguably even most of us, either support or are indifferent to the rise fascism. It's been fascinating working on the show, and I'm so glad that I'm doing it right now. Our production has so many interesting ways to make the audience reflect on their role in what we are seeing in America currently.

What did you think of Guthrie cabaret. I have bit concerns about it. So many of their shows are so politically neutral and bland.

I’m feeling like ‘rise of fascism’ Is the wrong phrase. Is more like the ‘bold honesty of American fascism’ that has always been here. Right? Like the genocide of Indigenous peoples and engagement of Black proposed and the ugly laws and treatment of disabled people in Covid. I’d love to hear more when talking about this very thing. Telling disabled people to ‘get over it’ the last five years is the very thing you’re talking about. Do we have to wait until the future to be honest about today? Can’t we acknowledge that we have been about this a long time sand are now? Especially on the left when we seem to think ‘it’s not us.’ Is not just the MAGA crowd supporting fascism. Never been just one side of the political spectrum. Would love to hear your thoughts.
