You’re right. The math doesn’t work. Let’s say half of us lose our jobs and AI does those jobs. All the companies using the AI to eliminate jobs can’t sell any products because the jobs are gone. They save money and stop making money all at once

Literally, it’s so jarring. Just zero further discussions on the horrific implications that are being insinuated.

These tools (LLMs) are not what entrepreneurs think they are. They're fun to play with right now and have some usefulness in specific/scoped contexts, but to sustain/improve them and have them take over to replace people it seems requires that you do not eliminate or even reduce the human workforce. The problem isn't the LLM itself but what it's advertised to do and how it's being used to support the continuous growth trend that their companies want. I know at least two companies that fired their engineering team to replace them with LLMs. They backtracked and are now re-hiring people because that approach failed them fast. See Klarna as a case study. Also UBI is as good as your society's willingness to support socialist policies. If no such infra is there to support reduction of workforce and dependency on UBI, then countries need to be content with decreasing birth rates as well as stagnating or declining population sizes

This is a repeat of the Gilded Age. Homemakers and people in the country were forced to give up their livelihoods and move to tenements in cities because of poverty and industrialization. economists argue that it's just a "correction" but MOST people during that time died in the factory or from disease bc they couldn't rest from working in the factory

I’ve seen a lot of people say “we’ll just have to get UBI” …..girl they are NOT giving us UBI, we will just DIE

This is a very important question that applies not just to AI, but technology in general. The technology that’s powering our phones/computers/tablets, the apps and services we interact with daily, the cloud - absolutely everything. It’s not just AI, despite how much it’s trending. We’re in a very tangled, messy web and we need to be talking more about what’s after these latest developments and start mitigating.

In all honesty I believe this AI bubble will burst due to the collective confusion (some pro/some against) and it feels more or less that the gold rush of tech is slowly fading (or calling for more serious talks of ethics of tech and policy/regulation) There is a strong understanding in the scientific community that AI capabilities of thinking is NOT as what is advertised and more or less the “thought” of what AI is capable to do is partly doing the heavy lifting. However it is more or less a sign or grasp of how companies are struggling to optimize because they have hired too many, paid too much for a select few, or havent hired enough. In reality this will force some serious contentions about the ethics of AI and the labor that is being reduced (I study this type of stuff in grad school so I actually geek out on these convos

There’s plenty of conversation. Just not from mainstream media and the government. Read ai 2027 and follow the researchers who made the paper

they are delaying the conversation because they still need workers. if the workers realize to early then the AI right wing revolution is stopped. if they wait then they can scape goat and kick the can until it's too late.

If you’re trying to learn more about AI/ML I’d also suggest learning about the technical fundamentals of how it works. This field has been around for decades now, and machine learning has been an integral part of the internet for the past almost 20 years

We should be sounding the alarms on this, the CEOs of Anthropic and Open AI both speak about this. Dave Shapiro has great talks about post labor economics.

They want people to die. All you have to do is look at that video where Peter Thiel cant say that he wants humanity to persist.

It’s 100% part of the plan. Once they remove us from the labor force and everything is automated they no longer need us and they can start the cleansing. They’ve shown us they have no problem with genocide
