@jamesculptart: Buchanan Dam 07/14/25. After more Texas Hill Country flooding LCRA is opening the flood gates. #floods #texas #centraltx #fyp #lake #highlandlakes #buchanan #warerfalls #centraltexas #coloradoriver #flood #rain
Hear me out. besides the people that have been lost, that is tragic and we are sending prayers for those but the other side of this is we’ve been in drought for decades. The dry creek beds and dried up finger creeks through out the hill country became a norm but in reality they should have been flowing with water and life. We just forgot how to live along side water. Human error a Complacency is the bad part of this but it’s nice to see the lakes full, rivers and creeks flowing and green everywhere. Not just a Barron brown landscape.

Massive amounts of rainfall over the last several days in Central Texas, which has led to more than 100 deaths and untold destruction, has now forced a major dam to open its flood gates for the first time in six years. The Lower Colorado River Authority (LRCA) opened the gates at Buchanan Dam in Burnet County, a necessary move to release storm runoff.

unfortunately there isn't many of the old old timers around any longer to tell people don't build homes and businesses along certain areas. these dams were built because of the epic floods in the past that happened alot more often and for drinking water supply. Texas is like a bull ride for sure. wait a few minutes and it will change on a dime.

Seeing this instantly made me think of the lyrics to a song called Turtle Island that I heard recently…”Loud was the River when the River could talk, and heavy was the Water when the Water could walk. Mother remembers what her Sons forgot, never take without giving.”

I nearly cried when I saw canyon lake is over 60% full now. the deaths are a horrible price to pay for the rain. but I can't help but be grateful for the restoration of our water sources

What a waste of water. Build a reservoir and pump that water into it. Then use the water to generate electricity.

They need to keep them closed and flood the valleys all the way back to Brownwood so the blue states don’t have to pay for the Texas Not Smart peoples flood repairs and insurance. That’s right the Tax money that Texas takes from the Federal Government come from the 14 Blues states that pay more into the Federal Government, than they take.

If you live here and know how dry it was- this is mind blowing. Irony is the beauty of it alongside the tragedy 😢

When I was young Lake Travis and Canyon Lake were two of the most beautiful lakes I’ve ever seen. I knew someday they would be full again, but it’s been decades. I’m so sorry for all the losses in our sweet state. God bless everyone.

Hopefully NOW they will put gauge system in place to warn people of risings water along with sirens. We have a siren check every Wednesday. But I live alone gulf. Water is crucial for our survival but can be deadly. I think the amount of lives lost was preventable. But it always takes a tragedy to make people see the need for precautions.

Lake Travis is going to fill all the way up with that water and I’m thinking they have to open that dam also I’m not sure though. Who knows what will happen if that ends up happening
