Get a new mechanic they’re 1 ripping you off, 2 they’re breaking your car. No Honda accord is gonna have a starter go out at 100k miles and if it somehow did, it’s $150 for the starter and at most 30minutes to install so at the most $75 in labor

Check engine light means there something off with the compression, it could be minor like a vacuum leak I’d get it checked out , if it something major then probably

i’m always late and maintenance is costly but heck no on a car payment. stay on top of maintenance and ask around for a trusted mechanic. ask around at work see if anyone has a mechanic.

Go get the check engine light read at your local parts store, Autozone/Orielys (it’s free) unless the check engine light is flashing, it’s okay to drive short distances to get the issue corrected
