Stuart you’re describing inter generational trauma and it’s so lovely how you dealt with it like a true brother, all families have their crises and you know for the most part we make it through because on the journey we become better human beings as a result of family.

I am sorry for your loss. I lost my brother, but we were not close. Quite the opposite in fact. Anatevka, a little bit of this, a little bit of that. A pot, a pan, a broom, a hat. Maybe you should think about that trip. Going to Kamchatka.

Stu: you and I are the same age - 1957 babies, and I just retired as a professor as well. My family were not Holocaust survivors, but they fled Germany/Denmark for the US in the 1930’s as Fascism was rising. If they were in a different part of Germany (not on the border with Denmark) they could not have escaped conscription and death as shock troop. Instead, we settled in Ohio, and 4 of my 8 uncles fought in WWII - two of them bombed our ancestral hometown of 900 years on the German/Danish border. That town still bears our family name. Your story resonates with me and I respect you for speaking out. Thank you 🙏
