I’m a mum of 3 2 girl 1 son all with autism my youngest level 3 emerging verbal severly autistic the other two are high functioning autism they are now adults. I cannot thank you enough I have been in this feild 36yrs and have seen many tools education and research in autism. Nothing helps people to understand the very real struggles of autism than seeing the day ti day struggles they face. Role play is extremely powerful for everyone concerned and when presented in the correct way which you absolutely do is extremely powerful thank you.

Me when I have a near meltdown, decide to knit to “calm down”, have a full meltdown because I’ve now messed up my knitting, and then continue to knit because I have to fix it, and the cycle continues 👌 But knitting is relaxing guys I promise 😂😭

Yeah general lesson don’t hold something that can cut you when you’re calming down from anything at all

Honestly I feel like anything that actually requires skill to complete is a no go after getting overwhelmed. I want tasks that are engaging and easy. Something like puzzles. Some hand eye coordination for manipulating the pieces and engagement of my brain to find the right ones.

Question: in very early 2000s (I was born in 97) I was found to have difficulty with interacting with children my age, I found them unpredictable and scary. I preferred to watch cars and play with gross motor toys, and stay engrossed in my fixations with whatever it was that made me feel calm. They decided that I had “sensory integration” as opposed to autism. While socially I’m (at least I think) I’m pretty adept— actually successfully manage 60 people with crazy personalities really well— I still struggle with the sensory aspect of life, and still have fixations on certain topics and sensations that I crave and will spend countless hours getting lost in. I have a hard time with certain sensations and I love to scratch and pick at anything that’s uncomfortable. I guess my questions is— what’s the difference between sensory integration and autism, and if I suspect that I have either one or both (in adulthood) how do I go about helping myself get an answer? That was super long winded but I figured I’d ask.

wait a minute... also has me thinking that body recovering from tiny trauma of shaving causes some stress/immune work. not a good idea if you've just had a meltdown. this... could explain a lot for me 😅

Not autistic but similar reasoning. I ended up having to use the blades with a block of soap around them to prevent this lol.
