So sad!! We love centennial beach! Regardless how he drowned the lack of urgency on the lifeguards is not good!

As soon as the toxicology results of the autopsy are in, many people will realize that they shouldn't break the rules of water parks.

Those lifeguards are beyond trained!! And they’re literally in college and get paid minimum wage. They have extensive training. So sick of people blaming lifeguards. This is tragic, but everyone should swim at their own risk.

That water you can’t see all the way to the bottom and if he tried to swim under the floating dock thing and got caught, they never would’ve known he was under there. I’m not sure the lifeguards are completely to blame here.

I doubt that was the reaction of the lifeguards I go to the pool almost every other weekend. They have a procedure that they even pull out people every like 20 or 30 minutes. Honestly think this was a medical condition. What if he had a stroke or something?

they failed him , they definitely could’ve prevented this… but it’s Naperville I’m not surprised .. I’m so sorry to his family & friends.

Bad look from the lifeguards. Definitely going to cost the park district $$. Confused why they wouldn’t just clear the deep end to look for him right away? If he disappeared during a race into the deep end? Sad for his family.

Just for curiosity, was alcohol involved in this incident? We are also responsible for our own safety and not depend on others.

so many teenagers and young adults don't take working seriously and ik they have a lot of them working at Centennial. it is the duty of a lifeguard to watch all guests inside the water, to alert and rescue, and to maintain order of the area. they failed to do all of those things. idc if he was drinking or smoking, the lifeguards should have been watching him while in the water. if they had done their job, he wouldn't have died

Why do people in the comments blame their friends and not the lifeguards, which is their job. Likewise, whether he knew how to swim or it wasn't their job to protect him, there are people who get cramps or get tired.

A lot of you in these comments are saying what you’re saying because he’s a brown person if this were a white man you wouldn’t be speaking like this

Let's blame the life guards to try and get a free meal ticket.... If they really looked for him themselves they would have found him so they're full of 💩.
I.C.E. needs to investigate

I genuinely think a lifeguard should be no younger than 18-21. Why am I trusting a 16 year old who's 120lbs sopping wet to save my life??

You have to be able to show that you can swim from one side to the other, and it is much longer than you think it is and deeper becy they have high dive boards
