Here’s a hot take. Maybe they ARE at capacity

"disrespect" is nowhere NEAR being at max capacity...

The timing on this is perfect. I have a staff who is a woman of color and is direct and blunt and people have issues with her “attitude” and refuse to address her and instead want me to “correct her” I refuse. Because straight forward answers, holding a line, and being assertive is not disrespect or bullying.

🤔 not following direction, dismissive noises, stamping feet, rolling eyes, walking off, continuing to make errors! Judgment or disrespect 🤷♀️- I call this disrespect.

I always tell my leadership team to approach difficult convos with curiosity...even if they "think" they know the answer.

Speaking like this to most authoritative bosses is futile. They will not change their approach or try to see things from a different point of view.

this goes back to how people define respect. some people define it as "treat me like a person who has value" and others view it as " treat me as an authority figure". your interpretation of respect may not match the other person's. that doesn't mean you're right and they're wrong. the worker set a clear communication about her capabilities and the boss got sidetracked by her own definition of respect

This makes me so grateful for my boss. Saying I’m at capacity and having that being seen as disrespectful is crazy!

What I'm hearing here is a disconnected boss. The team member says they're at capacity, but the boss wants them to take on even more and is mad about it.

I have been pushing back for my team due to the immense amount of workload. I'm being told I'm being to blunt and/or direct.

But how can a team lead judge the amount of projects one can take on if they’ve never been in their position before?

I had a manager who worked for me call me to tell me he’d just done a disciplinary meeting & it hadn’t gone well & could he come see me. He told me he had disciplined this woman for ‘insubordination’. I said ‘please don’t tell me that you used that word?!’ 😱

I’m an exec, 30 years in corporate who oversees large teams & I get this a lot from my direct reports (directors &’managers). I ask is this reprimand you want to do necessary? Is addressing this going to be helpful to the team? If both answers are not really, I suggest they’re focusing on personal differences not anything actually disruptive/problematic

DONT take things personally. You need to listen actively. Meet with the person and understand what lies underneath. You’ll get surprised

How is pushing back in a disrespectful or disruptive way helpful? It’s one thing to care a lot about the job but act professional in the workplace. Professionalsim is getting lost in the workplace.

I have an employees who was in management, stepped down, and is now reporting to me. Consistently falls short on KPIs, and clocks a ton of overtime. When I coach, she cries I’m targeting her, but no one else who isn’t meeting standard has access to OT. It is clear she gets special treatment due to previous role, and my superiors do not support me. She’s not blocking MY path but it sows discord in an otherwise excellent team. Do I keep letting it roll?
