@whatbreesees: Utah’s only Salamander - The Tiger Salamander These amphibians in their adult stage are rarely seen. Tiger Salamanders spend most of their year underground, in moist burrows beneath logs and among tree roots. They come to the surface just once a year, emerging at night in the early spring to trek across the snow to newly-thawed wetlands. They lay their eggs in bodies of water, where they emerge and live on in their aquatic stage before reaching adulthood. In some high-altitude lakes, tiger salamanders may exhibit paedomorphosis, where they retain larval features like gills into adulthood while becoming reproductively mature. This was such a special sight to see! Please be mindful that alpine lakes in the cottonwood canyons do NOT allow swimming. Respect that. When I was here, a very rude, privileged family decided to go swimming and then argued back with my self and others who told them to get out of the water. Don’t be an a-hole Iike them. #alta #utah #littlecottonwoodcanyon #slc

I'm confused, they look like axolotls but y'all say they are salamanders. What makes them salamanders and not axolotls?

Salamander lures are great for large mouth bass fishing
the bass hate them as they eat the fish eggs in the nest

advice from ppl who live in SLC and drink the water that people aren’t supposed to swim in - take a picture if you can and call and report then immediately! A ~$600 fine is going to actually make them feel sorry. Yelling at them is giving them the attention they’re desperately craving!
