@_5cyth3_: The mystics of various ancient traditions — from the Eleusinian mysteries onward — were wont to claim that it is our so-called material ignorance that is the cause for our suffering; that our once pure “souls” have woefully descended into a spiritually deadening, “lesser” form, which conceals the arcane essence from the uninitiated. But no — the true veil is our hubris. The true veil is our inability to accept that the sickness had its genesis in the idea that we were ever divine to begin with. And until we have the strength and the courage to acknowledge that it is not this material ignorance, but rather this phantasmagoric, all too human conviction that we are divine in essence that lies at the root of our suffering, then we will continue to live in dissonance. The mystics, for all their insight, inverted the truth, for it is not our decent into the material that blinds us — quite the contrary. Heraclitus once said that it is our hubris to be quenched, lest it be quenched for us. Nietzsche contrasts the way in which the Greeks and Christians employed their gods. In the former, man saw in them reflection of the most noble specimens of their own cast, and in those reflections man felt the animal in himself revered. Christianity (and really countless other traditions, Nietzsche attacked Christianity in particular for obvious reasons) locked the animal in a cage, where it was forced to turn against itself — to ravage itself. #aesthetic #philosophy #foryou

The story of religion throughout mankind from the mystics and myths of the ancient world to the rise of Christianity have focused on different aspects of the human form— Greek religion elevated us to perfect, noble, and impervious forms of ourselves in the gods, and in worshipping them, we worshipped our own potential. Christianity says we are sinful by nature, locking our inner animal in the cage of morality and promoting guilt, neurosis, and self-loathing of the baseness of our flesh and impulses. The key to becoming and higher forms as highlighted by Nietzsche lies in the synthesis— recognizing our limitations, that we are not divine, and tempering our pride, but on the other hand, allowing ourselves to not be consumed by, but to indulge in what is natural and instinctual without regret for our essence and existence.

Just observe the way we remember men like Napoleon. On one monument to him he’s described as the “New Apollo”. The Divine is immanent and reveals itself by using humans as vessels for it: the more he embodies an ideal archetype of Divinity the more godlike and mythic man becomes. The ancients understood that everyone has a genius, a spirit of their soul. And this spirit would possess them in existential moments of will. Trump’s actions after nearly dying from gunshot, I believe, is an instance of this divine possession, hence why the evangelicals claim “God saved him”. What they mean is his soul was posessed by a divine genius, and he became immortal in that moment. Just as Achilles was posessed by it as he desecrated Hector’s corpse.
