@sellanythingonline: The July slump this year was bigger than ever. I thought it was just B2B but it turns out hundreds of you felt it. So when I dug into it, I realised that a huge part of the decrease in sales was because of Amazon and its Prime Day sales. They dominated Google, Meta, TikTok and had majority share of wallet. But this isn’t dissimilar to other post sales periods. So here are 3 things you can do for next time so you can minimise the slump: 1. Plan for downturns (months in advance) - plan out big campaigns and product drops for the weeks you know sales will drop. This applies to post-BFCM, Amazon prime days, post-Fathers Day etc. Minis, merch, bundles, jumbos, new product categories all work. I use tools like Google Trends and Particl to see what people are looking for 2. Take the slow weeks to sit in your email and SMS flows and change and optimise them - new offers, new images, new copy, new subject lines. Look at tools like Milled to help you with this. You won’t believe the uplift in sales by doing this 3. Go hard on the human side of your business - map out social content that leans into you as the founder, mistakes, wins, BTS, the messy side of business. This will give you a boost in engagement during slower sales periods. If you can’t win products, you can win with sentiment This is exactly what I’ll be doing going forward. I’ve learnt the hard way! #SmallBusiness #ecommerce #amazonprimeday
