It’s interesting how many Tanzanians don’t even know the true nature of their own natural resources. I'm Tanzanian by the way. Now, contrary to what lots of people believe, Lake Natron doesn’t turn you into stone instantly. The key word here is instantly. What actually happens is that the lake has extremely high salt and mineral content and because of that, when animals or even people die in the lake, the minerals gradually cause their bodies to calcify, preserving them in a hardened stone like state. It’s a similar concept to what the ancient Egyptians used in mummification, preserving bodies with large amounts of salt. So, with Lake Natron, if you were to die in it and your body remained there for some time, the high concentration of salts and minerals would eventually cause your body or an animal's body to calcify and become hard like stone. And please, no one should come for me. I said if you were to die in the lake, not just by touching it or stepping in quickly. That alone won’t do anything to you. The calcification happens over time and only if the body stays in the lake after death.
