@jellyorangetree: It feels like twelve weeks flew yet also dragged. I had times when I felt so ok I kept thinking maybe I’d magically escaped the bad stuff and then some very low lows that really humbled me. Hair loss, sleeplessness, fevers, mouth ulcers, body aches, heartburn, neuropathy and itching, weight gain and bloating, eye watering headaches, the most undignified flatulence (your gut is f*cked), brain fog that feels like you suddenly became stupid and the kind of fatigue that makes you think you won’t want to do much ever again. I did not find any one thing more horrendous than the others, it was more a series of micro symptoms and moments that felt like they kept coming relentlessly and it all felt a little bit never ending. It’s a test on your body and your patience. All of this though, a worthy walk in the park in exchange for the opportunity to cure yourself of this disease. As I prepare for a double mastectomy and reconstruction in a week’s time, I just remind myself that the hardest part is over. And healthier, brighter and boobier times are ahead. Even in all of this, we managed to have all the laughs one toxic fart at a time, I am lucky to have a group of the very best around; my husband, my parents, my brother and his family, our friends and extended family.
