just rolled credits on expedition 33 a few days ago and it might be the greatest story in any piece of media ive ever experienced. ive never felt so emotionally impacted playing a game before. The combat was also fun and challenging and it felt so rewarding spending an hour or two learning a bosses attacks and patterns in order to successfully conquer them and finally progress in the story. A story that left me wanting to know more and more as it progressed. I really didnt have high hopes going into this game especially because of the turned based combat but my god did this game suprise me. The characters, gameplay, the plot twists (spoiler warning: gustaves death really had me shocked to the point i genuinely couldnt accept it). Not to mention the world itself was like a museum of beautiful paintings everywhere you traveled and the soundtrack is now one of the most iconic soundtracks in all of gaming. This game is literally a work of art in digital form. I loved it. My new favorite game of all time. Anyone that hasnt played it needs to experience it right now.

DK bananza is like a kids game with nothing but punching and destroying. (from the trailers that ive seen) is there any story to it? actually drama? is it gonna make me cry?? I dont think so, its nowhere near game of the year. SPLITFICTION over Shadows DK, let alone E33.

Tinfoil Hat: If Sony bought and paid for it last year, Nintendo can do the same if DK gets a nom. Not saying Astrobot didn’t deserve it, but there was a lot of vitriol around that choice. Sony has been the only one with platform exclusives to win since, depending on which list you pick Breath of the Wild for Nintendo or Mass Effect 2 (maybe?) for Xbox. And if Ghost of Yotei is REALLY good, Sony could literally steal it again.

kcd2 should be on the list over at least 3 of these. fantastic story driven open world period piece with skyrim-like progression. it's historical fiction at its peak
