The phenomenon seen is in the “future” portion of the radar, not past nor present. Therefore the pattern seen is predicted by a weather model, not recorded. Weather models are sophisticated, but not perfect. Sometimes they have strange-looking graphical quirks due to the underlying math that generates the prediction.
