Let me be clear lol - I STARTED Brew at 2… but there is a difference between starting them and working the life out of them. He was ridden maybe once every other week just to get basics down, and now he is in his 3 y/o year. The goal is long term soundness and everything I do with him is ran by a vet first!

Say it louder 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Growing up, it was the norm to wait until at least 5 before you backed horses… Now we have 3 year olds in full blown competitions? 🫠 Honestly not surprised how many are ending up crippled so early on later in life.

I didn’t even start sitting on my colt till he was 3- and it was super light after that and man I’ve never seen a more muscular a biomechanically correct horse at 4yo. He puts in so much effort to stay elevated in the front and he’s so sweet/ smooth. He’s got a long career ahead of him and I’m in no rush!

Those that start that early just looking for a check and not a lifetime partner they will pass them on to be a bill for someone else later

I HATE futurity competitions with my heart and I genuinely think anyone who enters there puts the sport wayyy before the horse

I have a running bred noodle of a horse that took a longgg time to fill out. He just turned 5 and honestly, I’m in no hurry to “finish” him. He rides at our shows, we trail ride. I also just had a baby a year ago, so we are going at our pace and I’m perfectly fine with that.

I started my mare late and she's 24 and I can still ride her daily, because she's sound

Hell my 5 yr old is a little behind and I literally don’t care I bought the mare to remind myself this is what I love and want to spend my life doing. And that’s what she’s done and we’ve done it at a snails pace and it does not bother me one bit! I spent the first 6 months I owned her on the ground 🤷🏻‍♀️

Taking it slow fills in the holes anyway. The whole 30-60-90 day or age-based training “schedule” everyone abides by usually leaves horses missing major parts of their education

My 3 year old is so behind but I’m not pushing her. Shes mentally not ready so we just aren’t ready and I’m okay with that🤷🏻‍♀️

I know plenty of horses who barely got sat on if at all in their three year old year who went on to have long healthy riding careers… it’s almost like they live 25+ years with good care 🤷‍♀️

You don’t just inject horse because they have an issue. It’s a preventative. Horses who were injected younger had way less problems as they got older, bevsue they prevented break down and arthritis

My horse was in a training program that they HAD to be ridden 4 days a week through their 2-3 year (by contract, look up FRC it’s a college). So okay, I rode her for 15 minutes, 20 tops 🤣 that really irritated the boss men! 7yo now and 1000% sound! Broke as hell too
