Personally I would have even given them prison time. Stick them on an ankle monitor and make them plant trees for the next 5 years. I think this with a lot of sentences. Why are we locking so many people away, especially when the prisons are so full, when people who have done non-violent crimes could be made to wear ankle monitors and pay society back, both in the physical (community service) sense, and even a monitory sense if they have caused damage to property or something.

Too short imo. "it's just a tree" it was a landmark and important to people. If someone defaced Rushmoore because they wanted a bit of stone nobody worldwide would hear the end of it for years
