drycleaner here👋 wash with HOT water and add dawn platinum a little goes a long way! don't put to much or you'll end up with suds everywhere. do not use fabric softener It will create a layer on the top and lock in the smell, also do not put them in the dryer until the smell is gone if you already have dried them most likely the smell is not coming out. I hope it works for you!

But Dawn dish soap is the only thing that will break down the petroleum at the atomic level

So the fabric softener will trap the smell. Do a first hot wash with baking soda and vinegar. And that’s it. Do a double rinse if you can. Then after they should smell clean. You can then wash again with detergent and softener.

A wash with his hot water as your machine will do with a little squirt of dawn, dish soap may have to repeat this process once

My grandmother owned a dry cleaner for years and while I don’t remember anything specifically about gasoline, she always told us when our washing machines would get smelly or if a particularly raunchy load got washed, to scrub the drum with a paste of baking soda and water, then fill the washing machine with a large load of water and add half a box of baking soda TWO TIMES. It has ALWAYS worked for me. Good luck!
