no and tbh this annual tradition is not the reason whales and dolphins are at risk. people need to leave local cultural traditions alone and focus the mega corporations destroying ocean habitats with oil drilling, chemical dumping and plastic pollution.

At least the Faroese do it for food, no one gave me shit for going to Sevilla to study because that’s where they torture bulls purely for entertainment. It’s a bit selective and quite strange

we would never go anywhere. Would I go when they were doing the actual hunt hell no. same as I wouldnt go to a bull hunt, or a fox hunt. Now obviously depends on the severity of what is happening even if able Israel would be off the list, America is off mine especially whilst tangerine toddler is in power

the thing is they aren’t the ones that are wiping out those populations. i’m a vegetarian myself but meat that’s local will always be more ethical that quinoa i could buy that traveled halfway around the world and polluted. sustainable local food is the best for the planet, even if people think dolphins are cute 😭

I think there is nuance. I don't support the slaughter but I eat meat so don't really have the mral high ground. I wouldn't however for example visit if they slaughtered for fun. Equally I wouldn't visit a country with an appalling human rights record, such as the death penalty for homosexuality

I don't agree with what the US does, or the UK or Thailand or Sweden (where I live) etc but that ain't stopping me from any of those places, except the US because I don't want to get detained at the border for no reason

Animals killed during hunt have lived their natural life until killed. Animals that live in small cages before being transported long distances and then killed, have not. People eat the latter all the time.

It would be hard to find a country that doesn’t do something questionable. Should we just never travel then?

They're not torturing animals for fun. Also, I'd say 5 whales a year to feed the whole island is better than billions or trillions of animals that would feed them for a year. Because plant only died isn't sustainable.

animal rights activists need to turn their rage to the fishing companies that are overfishing our seas to death to turn the wheel of capitalism instead of at the folks on a remote island that hunt a few times a year to feed themselves

I went to Florida during the US destruction of Iraq, nobody said a world about it. Yet I went to Russia a few weeks ago, and everyone asking how I could go!! No consistency at all, people just think what the TV tells them to!

Most of the air we breathe actually comes from the ocean. Those plants are fertilized by whales and dolphins. No whales and dolphins means no oxygen.

Almost any country does stuff that's morally questionable. Since the islands are so small, I wouldn't go while they make an event out of it, but otherwise....

The animals they hunt are carefully selected so they don't hunt breeding females. These people are not the reason that these animals are at risk. What is killing our oceans is large scale commercial fishing and pollution
