if it makes you feel any better, i believe kris is the one providing the narration (as. how would *we* provide the narration + kris can direct it on some level esp re: like, end of c4 where you can turn the doorknob but not open the door, because kris chooses not to let you. in undertale it was pretty implied that *chara* was the one narrating (or at least helping narrate), so still not the player.) something could be said here re: kris having to pull control from us in order to play well and how it clearly takes a lot out of them, and how that must be immensely frustrating and sad, but we aren't taking credit. kris might be wresting more and more control back as the chapters go on, and the narration may have been their way of doing so this chapter. additionally, we don't name the soundtrack. its unreasonable to put the name of the track on us. i would argue the name being "piano that may or may not be played well" is both a little joke (because of course its played well, kris is playing it), but also perhaps a manifestation of kris's fears, because they're very obviously unhappy and distressed that they're unable to properly play the piano while we're in control, and given that this is a moment where they're 1. showing their skills to their friends who they care deeply about and 2. trying to actually unlock the puzzle to progress/save the world, i could believe that they're scared they're not up to par. like maybe they think they're better than they are. artists are frequently insecure about their own work, and kris may have gotten to play in noelle's house earlier, but that doesn't mean they're confident in their own work.

I broke down during this scene I can’t lie. Mostly because I missed the piano playing in Noelle’s house so this scene really WAS the first time hearing Kris play for real and it HURT

i saw an analysis recently where. because the plinks are in the soundtrack as “concert for you”, which made the theorist think kris is intentionally playing it that way, not just because of our lack of ability. piano seems to be a form of expression for them, and they choose to play properly only when they want to, not when we force them to (in this scene, when they are on their own in noelle’s house, etc)

this scene made me full on break down. my favorite character in any piece of media is always the sad blue ones lacking the freedom they crave and this cemented something deep in my soul about Kris that Lapis Lazuli from SU did over a decade ago when I saw her for the first time :') it genuinely gets hard to play this game when I think of the soul and the player like lapis' mirror, a prison. a cage. :( AAAAA Kris is in a prison of their own making stop this toby 😭😭
