@notesfromallison: Staying out of the past and the future (which don’t truly exist) and rooting in the present moment is one of the keys to fighting OCD and the urge to panic about our thoughts. Inspiration for this brought to you by: The Mindfulness Workbook for OCD by Jon Hershfield and Tom Corboy #therapy #therapytiktoks #ocd #obsessivecompulsivedisorder #SelfImprovement #selfhelp #selfhealers #selfhealing #innerwork #anxiety #MentalHealth #recovery #mentalhealthmatters #obsessed #therapytiktok #therapytok #mindfulness #ocdawareness #ocdproblems #ocdlife
yes but not every ocd theme is like this. for example real event ocd is all about the past, or you can have themes that are in the present "what if i am... what if it's like this/that"

This also works for fear/anxiety in general. Ask yourself “Is this just thought inventing time?” The answer is always yes

This is good, but how about this? You are in the present moment when you wake up, but every day you wake up without an alarm, you wake up and look at the time on the clock and it’s a trigger number everytime, which then means your future family will suffer? And it happens daily? The universe glitching, your subconscious is waking you up from your sleep on that number every time, it’s impossible odds that happen daily. That’s when it gets extremely difficult not to compulse the next day hoping you wake up on a safe time. Hoping for a trigger free day and it never arrives.

How about OCD in the present moment? The "just not feeling right" feeling you get if you not respond to the urge to react to things in this moment.

Yeah it really isn’t that straight forward. OCD to people can feel as true as something that actually has happened without the ability to differentiate between the two, false memory ocd for example and the intense rumination on that. Unfortunately at no fault of there own, therapists won’t have an actual clue how to help properly in my opinion other than therapists that have actually had it who will get it, there’s zero logic

This is so helpful! I tend to always think about either the past or I think about the future or a hypothetical. Existing in this moment I am safe
