We didn’t go through shooter drills as kids. We teach them now. And some of us have been through the real thing knowing we would give up our own life to protect these kids.

We are the smallest generation because of how many of us died.

xennial here....class of 99...I grew up in central FL we did bomb drills too under our desk since Cuba wasn't far during the cold war, but i never felt what my kids are feeling around the world they live in. with the non stop access to info. I think you're right and that separating and saying "who had it worse" doesnt get us closer to goals, we need each other to get through all of this.

we heard too many stories of kids who never made it home when they were out running around by themselves like we were. We know how lucky we were to have made it home as little kids when we just went all over the place with no supervision!

It’s almost like we’re not meant to live the way we do in society. There is this phenomenon that happens to animals in zoos… It’s called zoonosis, I think what we are seeing is a form of that. I think each generation has a form of that because slowly through the decades, our species has become less and less community And more and more individualistic consumerism in this capitalistic society.

Triggering for me because I recognized the look from the mirror. Silent Gen parents, Cold War - and the drills, Gulf War, space shuttle blowing up, 10pm do you know where your children are, AIDs, sister removed from the census, columbine, 9/11

💯 and our teen pregnancy epidemic was so indicative of our obvious neglect, trauma, sadness, desire to be loved, and the awareness that our outnumbered generation had only one option to create a better future: multiply.

GenX in San Diego. nucelar, earthquake and fire drill. we had the first modern school shooting. (Don't like Mondays), had racial riots in my Jr. High, had Antisemitic flyers put in my locker (Metzger lived here) lost friends to drugs and gang violence, 2 self unaliving in school bathrooms, serial killers, seemed like everyone experienced sa and dv and all this before leaving high school. Going too far with self destruction in the 20s to helicopter parent.

Oh my Friend…THIS, so much this. I stayed til the end and rewatched a few times. I’m at the very end of the boomer generation and my parents just cut loose and let go and we suffered for it. It was hard but we raised ourselves (and our siblings) and survived it somehow. It’s how I still survive my trauma triggers. Your voice and point of view is valuable and valid. Thanks for being here!🙏🏼

As Gen X, we didn’t do active shooter drills, but there was an active shooter at my school once. We also had incidents with people carrying knives. And yes, I remember the Cold War-era drills. Some of my earliest childhood memories of the news were all the plane hijackings—it felt like they were happening all the time

ok one thing we do have in common .. CLIMATE ANXIETY... we were the generation that were raised on recycling and how awful the chemicals were getting... Plus so many things this wonderful guy didn't even talk about... Rodney King, WTO riots, abortion laws....

Most of Gen X practically raised ourselves w/ barely any supervision. Every generation has its strengths and downfalls but we need to be able to hear all POV w/o blaming in order to learn from one another instead of pitting generations against one another. When you know better you do better.

This is spot on. We watched the space shuttle explode in our elementary class w/out a conversation about it. I lived through a school shooting & got one day off before going back to school where there was still blood spatter on the lockers. We had to learn coping skills in our 40s, bcuz we were never taught how to deal w/anything

What the younger generations don’t understand is we don’t post everything that we went and are going through daily.

I'm an elder millenial who was raised by boomer parents. I also have a cptsd dx and panic disorder. My uncle was part of the crack epidemic and I'll never forget learning he disappeared again. My aunt used to get beaten daily by my uncle and I remember hearing her cry when I spent the night there. I remember my mom and dad going to the morgue to see if a body they found was my uncle. I lost my half sister and niece to drugs. It's been wild raising three Genz and 2 gen alpha kids and protecting them. 🥺

Are you sure you’re Gen X? Sounds like you’re Elder Millennial because you’re the same age as me. But yeah, we def have our own trauma. Not to mention we had pew pew incidents in college, movie theaters, and even at our kids’ schools. Also, I think that stare is what we saw in our friends or classmates before something bad happened.
