Nailed it! I send clients to the College of Arms website that has all the rules for arms. Fortunately, I’m having more and more clients who talk about their “arms” knowing it’s not theirs and they’ve received the message already.

Some guy registered a tartan, for my paternal surname, in the late 1990s. The registration notes the pattern is for anyone with that surname.
It contains colours I like so I'm fine with it.
[But I've yet found any non-royal ancestors from Scotland. I don't really count the royal ones as they moved around so much.]

Ok I know that but I just use them on Ancestry because I want color and it’s a way to categorize a family name since I link them all to the same picture.
