Gerrymandering has become a survival tactic for Texas Republicans. As the state grows younger, more diverse, and more urban, the GOP isn’t winning new voters it’s redrawing the map mid-decade to cling to power. In 2022, Democrats won nearly 45% of the vote but only 34% of congressional seats. Now, instead of earning broader support, Republicans are targeting minority districts to dilute Black and Latino voting power a move the DOJ calls unconstitutional racial gerrymandering. This isn’t democracy. When a party can’t win with ideas or turnout, it rigs the districts. In Texas, politicians aren’t serving the voters they’re selecting them.
