deep lore: sauron is similar to Lucifer. he was one of the most beautiful maiar, corrupted by melkor. melkor was part of the group of valar who were singing creation into existence. melkor sang discord and darkness into the song of creation, elevating his evil power. maiar serve under the valar. evil maiar ie balrogs fight against the good maiar such as the wizards. that's why Gandalf was the fellowship's only hope in Moria. fun fact: shelob, the giant spider, is not a valar or maiar but a child of ungoliant who tolkien enthusiasts aren't sure of her exact origin. they don't know if she is pre-song of ainur(life) or not

Gandalf bumping his head wasn’t scripted. Christopher Lee was the only member to have met J.R.R. Tolkein and when Peter Jackson wanted Sarumon to scream, he told P J that he had witnessed people get stabbed in the back during WW2 and none of them screamed. Just a few of my favorites.

I was wearing an evenstar when I met my bf. after finding out just how into LotR I was, he stared at me for a second with viggo-level soulful blue eyes, and very quietly asked if I wanted to go to his place and meet his horses. needless to say, I won the lottery 😂

I remember hearing once that John Reise Davis was allergic to something in his face mask and he’d complain about it constantly. Thus, when filming ended, they let him throw it in a fire and he did not hesitate to do so

Christopher Lee the one who played Saruman was a WW2 veteran and British SAS. And in the scene where he's k!led by wormtongue, he actually depicted an actual reaction of how someone would react if st@bed in the back. Peter Jackson had a new level of respect for the man that day.

the actor who played Aragorn literally lived off the land during filming, went fishing and everything, like an actual Ranger. he also bought his horse after filming was done cause they were gonna put it down

Sean Bean refused to get in a helicopter after riding to location once so he just elected to legit climb to location every time. They would see him climbing up the cliffs and stuff on their way every day, in costume and everything lol

Composing the LOTR trilogy Soundtrack took 4 years, and most of the vocals are Elvish translations of key phrases of a specific scene from the book so if you just listened to the music, you can follow the whole story
