maybe a weird question but what if someone just doesn't burp regularly? it happens maybe once or twice a year and i get bloated so it comes out the other end eventually but still...doesn't seem normal 😅

My dad taught me this……”Wherever you be, let your wind go free because holding it in could be the death of thee!” I live by that everyday!

I think you might be on to something. When I was a teenager and young adult, I struggled with constipation and ibs. As a teen my non medical parents didn’t get it and didn’t give me medication. My mom had a psychology degree. Her first thought was ed before something normal. Like… recurrent constipation due to diet or our family history of autoimmune disorders. Relevant to what you said. As a young kid. 4/5/6. Everytime I was tickled I would fart and my dad made fun of me. Sometimes it made me cry. Which as a kid seemed awful. The grownups would say that’s nothing to cry about. As an adult, I realize that’s normal for a little girl. Also as an adult, I talk to my 5 and 8 year old all the time about pooping. I honestly would like more tips. I think constipation might be hereditary. And my kids have awful diets.

one of the ways hEDS affects me is with a variety of GI complaints. in this context my redundant and tortuous colon make mine extra impressive. 😂

Yes! I’ve normalized farting and making sure everyone poops regularly. My 3 daughters are completely comfortable with their natural bodily functions. My 17yr old daughter has her first boyfriend and farts around him. No horrible stomachs for her like I had as a teen/young woman.

We used farts to get my niece to eat veggies. Broccoli used to make her farty so we’d have “fart nights” and have a TON of broccoli for dinner. Win win! Then we would try new veggies to see if it they would facilitate a fart night for us lol She was tooty AND eating plates full of veggies.

Went off gluten and lactose to avoid the IBS symptoms. Learned how to have a BM and fart regularly and can eat anything I want with no issues now!

I farted in my 3rd grade gym class while we were being lectured…the entire class laughed and the teacher asked if I needed to go check my pants.💔i held my farts from that day forward. I came home everyday with terrible stomach aches. Now I burp instead and suffer horribly. You are exactly right, as an adult I have serious issues now. 😔All because I was embarrassed of a natural body function! 🫣 😅

Yep I would never go at school. I would be nauseous and wouldn’t eat lunch in fear I would need to go. Ibs has been controlling my life for years

And think how much less likely women would be to tense up during labor and delivery if they weren't worrying about passing gas or stool in the process! They could allow their bodies to go with the flow and let the body do what it needs to. I'm about to start nursing school, and I will never let anyone feel embarrassed for those bodily functions in my presence.

My 6yo thinks farts are hilarious. Her dad taught her to ask did you hear that duck when she farts. Last time I took her to my electrophysiologist appointment with me she silently farted and asked him "Did you hear that duck?" I had to explain what she was talking about but he thought it was hilarious

Grew up in a fart friendly home! Even at the dinner table and we’d all laugh! We would even “crop dusted” each other, would fart and blame the other person, laugh. Talked about pooping, I named “ diarrhea” “ dry-e-uh” and we call it that to this day. 🩷

But can they be too gassy? I have an 11 yr old girl. Super active in multiple sports and is ridiculously gassy. My dad always said if you toot while working out it means your are using your abs. She is gassy ALL THE TIME. My husband is also super gassy.
