@newenglandnaturals: Dermestid beetles consume decaying meat and when put in a controlled environment they are great at cleaning skulls. Their biggest strength is that they consume meat and cartilage without damaging fine bones so nose structures come out in pristine shape. The work isn’t done when the beetles finish their job though. Skulls still need to be degreased to get any residual fat out of the bone, teeth glued back in place, and then whitened for that museum quality finish.
