Tons of the principal engineers and deep learning leaders have already laid it out clearly that AGI is still purely speculatively , our understanding of large language models purely comes from their computing abilities - I study machine learning at an Ivey, but I do agree it does pose many imminent threats even if we don’t reach a point of “agi”

We are pretty much at the point of a new wave of hyper intelligence as AI will soon code itself if it isn't already and has self protecting tendencies. We need to have laws to protect us but I agree it is quite scary. At the same time I don't think AI could fuck up the world more than humans have iykwim

good summary of AI 2027. you should read Anthropic's interpretability research, I think it presents a challenge to the "it doesn't know anything" view while showing how models work from the inside.
