my grandma did the same thing before she passed. I am so sorry you are going thru this.

My grandfather is right in this stage as well. He also is either sleeping longer or not sleeping through the night.

Maybe just give her really small portions and then that way she’s not over eating split her dinner up to maybe three dinners

I’ve heard some patients do well when the empty plate is left on their tray that connects the reality to the request. You’re doing an amazing job love.

My dad has early onset. He’s at the running away from home stage, not recognising his home, he thinks it’s his workplace and his carers are “useless” colleagues (his reality). He’s starting regression too.

I love watching your posts about Nan. My Nan also has dementia so it’s great to watch your experiences, it really helps😊. However my Nan also has skin cancer, on her forehead, so some of the things are linked to this spreading 😞😢

My mom does better when there is an empty plate in front of her. It anchors her to the fact that she just ate. I’m glad you’re enjoying this. I’m very ready for my mom to go. It’s hard and she’s consistently confused, disoriented and sad.

My nan used to do the oposite, you would offer her food and she would refuse and say she had already eaten even though she has had nothing, it was so difficult to get her to eat she lost a lot of weight so quickly x

A lot of times, when they revert back to their younger years, it’s a good idea to let her live it through music or shows that maybe used to be on when she was younger if there are any. Her saying she’s hungry, I love the empty plate thing, and when I worked in memory care I’d get them a small snack (like a multigrain bar or ice cream) just in case and sometimes they would remember they did eat. Or they’d be okay after the snack

just a thought but if she thinks she is 6 would she ever think u are 6 too like a friend for her rather than her mum or does she always see u as an older person?

I wonder if there was some food scarcity in her childhood that is leaning to that fixation. Thank you for sharing this incredibly vulnerable time in your family’s life. Sending all the love for her continued comfort.

My grandma passed in May after having dementia. She went through everything you’re experiencing. Always called out for her mom and dad and said she couldn’t wait to see them again when she moves. Would get angry as well over food. I saw her a few weeks before she passed for the first time since being diagnosed and it was shocking

I lost both my parents to dementia over the last few months, but they were so different to your nan. They both suffered from constant confusion but not the memory loss and regressing to childhood. They both had problems with communication and my dad was completely non-verbal for the last 9 months which was so difficult. Your doing amazing with your nan. I pray for you both. ❤️🙏
