My orthopedic surgeon wasn't going to do the hip labrum repair because the scans only showed a minor tear and no hip dysplasia. I pushed for it and when I woke up he let me know it was completely torn and it was one of he worst cases of adult hip dysplasia he had ever seen and was shocked none of my pediatricians found it. So test and scans can be wrong

Surgery should always be the absolute last option. So many believe a surgery is a quick fix and often, that’s not the case.

On rotation I was with a surgeon who said "I love doing surgery, so if I'm telling you we shouldn't do this, we really shouldn't do this." Really stuck with me

I manage a neurology department and the number of people who get very angry at us when we tell them that their symptoms are caused more from an emotional or behavioral issue rather than a medical one is quite large. People so often would rather have a life altering medical crisis, then find out that their symptoms could be helped by getting some good counseling.

I see this in Ortho on a daily basis. People come for pain. Not all pain needs a surgery, not all pain is anatomic
