@andreterrific: We’re not exactly the weird ones for expecting basic social skills… Every person you meet is, in fact, entitled to basic human decency and respect. #genzstare #millennial #genz
The idea of respect as a commodity to be earnt is an old one, maybe older than English. I have always been a firm believer of Respect is something you start with and you can get more or lose it. As for the Gen Z stare, no thats the Customer Service stare, Gen Z just have shorter fuses than most retail workers. Fair too, look what they have to deal with.

Everyone gets a base level of respect. It’s up to them if the gain, lose, or retain that respect.

yes this is what I always say I will be nice to you when I first meet you but if you are rude then you loose that respect and I will treat you how you treat me

Yes everyone should be nice to everyone but most of the time respect is earned. But actually older people should actually be giving younger people respect so that they can reflect off of that and look up to them as an adult/parent/teacher. Telling younger people they owe someone respect just because they an adult teaches as kissing and making people respect people who might not even be nice

It’s a shame that this conversation seems to have focused ton customer service (even though that’s not what people were talking about when they talk about the gen z stare). Because verbal interaction is literally the job in customer service. Conversely, respect is required when interacting with customer service workers because there is dignity in all work/labor. It deserves respect. Especially if you claim to be any sort of “leftist.”

Respect should be your default. Disrespect is earned.

i agree but how can we respect our elders when we are born In a world where people are losing their rights, the world is burning, economy is gone, and living wage is no more, plus education is expensive but it gets you no where, I don't say that's a reason to be rude, but is a reason why we avoid contact with people we know nothing about
