@declareorder: One of my goals is to build community in the classroom so I work to teach them how 🥰 #genzstare #declareorder #communitycollege #classroomcommunity
I work with 14-21yo in foster care and almost none of them are experiencing this. For better or worse, they experience group settings with peers who also don’t have cell phones. They are forced to interact with youth, adults, and usually have some somewhat consistent therapy.

I teach HS. I’ll be honest with you. I feel like I see the stare more in the affluent areas versus those who are lower income. I think that might have more to do with the kids needs to start work earlier which equals better social skills. Technology is the problem though. When I remove phones during activities, you’d think we were in a classroom 15 years ago with how loud and talkative they are - while learning!!

Husband and I are 50, I’m a teacher and he’s a college student. He and profs have a fabulous time in classes and he and the profs are working hard to draw in the gen z. He loves working with them, but he thinks is wild. Huge difference.

I’ve become so much more conscious of how my face looks when I’m on my phone since having a baby a few months ago. It’s really helped cut screen time. I think there is a place for screens but I’ll try to always explain why I’m using my phone and tend not to scroll stuff too much anymore. I want him to interact with the world!

This is the only explanation I have seen so far that I agree! It’s the smaller interactions they are missing and don’t know what to do because they don’t get those. They don’t stand in line and just look around 😳

I teach a course for college freshman. another teacher on my team forces his students to start every class with a small talk exercise. for points. they desperately need the practice

💯💯 I saw this as a middle school teacher in 2013-2021. No response. Dead eyes. I was thinking they would mature out of it

This honestly makes me so sad for the generation 😭 it makes sense bc of how they grew up during covid. I say this as a millennial (if you couldn’t tell from my emoji usage haha) I 100% agree with the empathy!

This is 100% parenting. I’m sorry but unless someone can point me in another direction, they all lead to rules and discipline 🤷♀️

Maybe, but covid wasn't their entire life. Plus, they're not interested in doing life differently. They're judging others as cringe for speaking to them at all. How long are they going to use the couple years of covid as an excuse?
