I feel like you could put about 800 yearss of 10 pound braid on most spinning reels without backing haha. Also E tape works great for this

I think this is a good idea for the smaller spinning reels but 3K-5K is definitely put backing I normally run about 20-30yds of 15lb big game then run braid from there I do enough inshore and bass fishing for that

Actually, I use backing so the line the breed doesn’t cave in when it gets the full. It says that in all the real manuals and the line just lays better when backing I don’t do it so it doesn’t slip.

Instead of backing I like to fill the whole spool and then when it gets bad just let all the line out and then reel the line in reverse. Then you are left with brand new line again.
