Dude exactly this. The grocery by me has a ton of Gen Z employees and they are all KIND and POLITE people! But I will be walking out and say a simple “thank you” or “take care” with a little hand wave to the person running the self check-out and they just look at me with no response as I walk out. A “you too” is all I expect but I’m gone before they process the response. This is not exclusive to Gen Z and it’s not all of them by any means but it’s definitely very prevalent amongst them

your pause is acceptable if noticeable. I've made it a game now as a customer to just stare back until they acknowledge me. my record is over a minute so far.
