Yes Shawn, if a soldier comes back and has mental health issues and PTSD and are unstable, they should have their guns taken away. Full Stop. Being a veteran doesn't just give you a free pass if you have mental health concerns

oh yes im in MO. Saint Joseph home of Jesse James. Our city has went back to the wild west. few days ago, mom had loaded gun,in purse, safety off. accident in Walmart. the mom and daughter both got shot accidentally. this is everyday in my city

The problem with “substance use disorder” and “mental health” being markers is that when you live in a red state that marginilzes folks more for any one of those things, it will result in class warfare and eugenics type of laws being made. (Not to say that doesn’t already happen.) I just think it should be kinda like having car insurance and a license to drive. Make a points system. Reward folks for doing the right thing. If you mess up too many times, you have a period where you can’t legally own and must show rehabilitation or redemption to regain your rights. But nobody should ever be barred from owning because of “reasons” unless those reasons are violent in nature, like folks in active abuse/violence cases etc.

In Canada, if my husband/partner is getting his license and wanting a firearm, they will ask me if I have any concerns as part of the vetting process.
