Having 20 versions of the same book, consumerism perhaps. But this? No way

People who say books are consumerism are the ones who didn't care that the Library of Alexandria got burned down tbh.

imo, consumerism with books is when you have like a gazillion copies of one book, not collecting them

if you actually like to read and you enjoy each book and you aren’t buying them all at once, it’s not over consumption. It’s a collection and a hobby. If you’re buying 50 bucks at once maybe that’s a bit much but having a lot of books or a lot of one thing doesn’t necessarily mean over consumption and people tend to get that confused a lot. Your library is beautiful♡

I have yet to see someone who cries consumerism about people who buy lots of books to read offer a realistic alternative to buying them that doesn’t defund writers or place way too much trust in the government or big corporations. I ADORE public libraries and use them every single week, but they are not a replacement for a HARD COPY personal library for so many reasons. I read 1-3 books a week depending on how busy I am; it’s a mix of borrowed, thrifted, and new. I always buy (and keep, even if I didn’t love them) gay and lesbian fiction and nonfiction in hard copy because I don’t trust corporations and the government not to censor/ban in the future.

Hot take—it minimally bothers me when ppl do this if they don't catch themselves rereading books a lot. (U might idk not attacking u personally) Ik it’s not that big of a deal. I won't die on this hill. But they shouldn't be trophies. That's like a whole tree maybe 2😭 and with so many booktok girlies…that’s like a whole huge Forrest. ( I speak for the trees)
