@enchantawaywithcarrie: Who knew my expectation that my room be ready around check in time at Disney World was controversial?! If you are team “well it says starts” then what’s your cut off for when you would get upset about your room not being ready? Others…is it crazy to expect our room to be ready around that 3 or 4pm mark? Would you be ok with this if it was Hilton or HolidayInn Express? #disneymoms #disneyvacationplanner #disneycontentcreator #disneyadultlife #disneydad #disneyvacation #disneyresorts #disneyparkstiktok #disneyhumor

Too many people don’t understand checkin time. Your room should be ready BY the checkin time. Sometimes it’s not. If it’s a little late, you’re due at least an apology. More than an hour late, they need to make it right somehow.

Former Disney housekeeper and front desk cast member here, and your room should absolutely be ready at check in time (as you mentioned, either 3:00pm or 4:00pm depending on which side you’re staying on). Anything later is not acceptable. While it does happen sometimes (people refusing to leave at checkout time and the housekeeper can’t get in to clean, rooms taken out of service for smoking in the room or significant damage to furniture), it should come with an apology and some level of recovery.

You are not crazy. It’s diabolical the way people defend Disney with the rooms not being ready at 4. Starting at 4 and then not being ready at 5, 6, etc. is insane. We once didn’t have a 2 bed unit at GF available until 745. What do you mean I owe you all those points?

No, I paid for 4pm. If the room isn’t ready at that time I expect them to follow the same policy they have for late check outs.

4 pm with slight wiggle room because I’m a decent person. Anything past 4:30 is not acceptable.

This was us. Our first trip as a family we arrived around 1 and check in was 3. We knew we would have to wait a little bit so we booked a character meal in the resort to make the waiting easier plus we were all hungry anyway, but after 6pm it still wasn't ready and we had a then 5yo and a 1.5yo with us. I called our TA and she tried to help us as best she could from her home and they ended up upgrading us to a Theme park view. Worth the frustration in the end I guess, but after a nearly 6hr drive we needed to rest before we started a week of parks.

I’m not going to worry about 4:15. I’m gonna be a little internally aggravated around 4:45. I’m gonna be complaining at 5:30.

If they want me out of the room at 11, then I went in the room by the time promised.

Last year we stayed at Cabana Bay going to Universal.. My room wasn’t ready for checkin and we waited 45minutes. Without asking they compensated us a free night. Super awesome. July 3rd this year at Art of Animation, Disney was 90 minutes late and offered nothing, not even sorry for your troubles.

It isn’t “starts” that is when the room should be ready. They don’t say check-out “starts” at 11am.

One time at Disney our room wasn’t ready by 6:30. We had done online check in and it kept saying it wasn’t ready. We had gone straight to the park so I was there calling to see what was going on. They kept telling me wait, it will be ready soon. 9:00 finally comes, we are leaving Epcot and still have no room. I called again and no room. I’m nice but basically saying this is unacceptable. We have little kids who need to go to bed. Long story short, they never had a room for us and switched us to a different hotel. Normally I would have asked for some compensation but the switch was from a value resort to a moderate resort suite.

We’ve only had one issue ever and our room at the grand Floridian wasn’t ready until after 10pm. The manager came to us and explained that the previous family had absolutely trashed it and gave us a “day” room to use that was smaller than our reserved villa. It was frustrating but I appreciated the day room and explanation.

So we had a short stay at Coronado and check in did not happen until after 6 pm! This totally ruined our evening plans which pushed out the next day’s plans…zero compensation or apologies. It comes down to $ and time when you are at Disney

Room should be ready. Disney asks during pre-check what time you expect to arrive, so they can sort this out when placing rooms. Usually we don’t have an issue, but one time at BC we arrived at 1pm. Room wasn’t ready until 6:30pm. Even then it took me gently escalating it for someone to check the system & give me a room (took them 2 minutes).

I am hearing over and over by (Disney castmates) that they do not have enough housekeepers anymore. There have been times that they had to limit the number of rooms available in the website because of lack of housekeepers. I bet this is also causing issues getttjng rooms ready by check-in time. We ran into this as far back as Oct 2024 (limited rooms available)

Not a Disney hotel, but I paid extra to check in at 1 PM and the room wasn’t ready until 6:30, I was LIVID. I had to get ready for an event in their public restroom

I understand that Disney is a very expensive trip and staying on property is even more expensive. Add in the fact that some people only get to go once in their lifetime. So you have high expectations and you want everything to go smoothly. However, in the real world, things are just gonna go wrong for any number of reasons. Maybe the cleaning staff was short staffed that day? Maybe they had an influx of more than normal check-ins for that day and were behind on cleanings. There are much worse things that can happen on a Disney trip than having to wait a little while longer for your hotel room.

I agree with you. Check in time is a commitment from them to you. You’re paying for that time. I don’t expect it to be ready early, but I expect it to be ready by the check in time.

Frequent Disney flyer and DVC member here. I’ve had both happen. I almost always say arriving before 3 bc we like to rope drop on our check in day. On my son’s 18th bday trip I booked a Savannah view room. We flew in on the 6am flight. Room wasn’t ready until 630pm. We crashed in the community center mid day.

My friend and I were staying one night in a Polynesian bungalow. Absolute dream stay. Granted, I knew the time restrictions being only one night but it was a splurge. The room wasn’t ready until 7:30. I didnt think much of it until a manager noticed we had been sitting on the same bench for a little too long with our suitcases. It wasn’t stated, but the way she handled the situation made it feel like 7:30 was far too late
