You may have already addressed this but this sounds like the “orders of charity” discussion JD Vance got raked over the coals for. But it makes sense, you can’t help others if you don’t address the closest needs first. Charity spirals outwards.

how are we going to spread the word if we will not extend the charity outside as to how inside? aren't we the salt and light of the world?

Thoughts on stay at home dads? If all the needs of the family are being met, and one is staying home to allow his wife opportunity to grow her skill set, is there a problem? If needs failed to be met, then it would absolutely be his responsibility to go out and meet those needs.

Matt 24:12 - “The love of many will grow cold” …in light of what you explained, when the end comes, is Jesus talking about those within the church or love for others in general?

So what verses point to how we should interact with and treat those outside of the church?

I really like my churches budget. Their goal is 25% staff pay, 25% bills, 25% missions/outreach, 25% community care.

Isn’t part of our failure the narrow definition of the family of God? Depending on your perspective the orthodox don’t count or catholic or some strand of Protestant?

Not going to lie, that Harry Potter reference got me, also is a great representation of what the Samaritans were.

I love how you articulated that. My Bible professor in college said it’s like an overflowing fountain. You should take care of your family first (wife and kids), church family, then community. Love the wisdom you bring!

Jesus always took care of the peoples physical need before revealing the spiritual need. A full tummy is quiet so the soul can hear God's voice. 😁

It reminds me of the instructions when flying “please secure your own air mask first before assisting others” you can’t help anyone if you can’t breathe.

Thank you for such a thorough and well thought out answer. I am an active member of my church but I also regularly host Bible studies for people who have quit going who still want to go deeper and explore their faith but a lot of times have felt rejected by the church body. I’ve seen them go to leadership, ask questions, challenge them on preaching prosperity or politics and get rejected for being seen as being too young, too undereducated, too libral, or sometimes just being women. And to be clear they have had these kind of reactions from many churches not just one. I hear that sometimes it feels like the modern church has “circled the wagons” to where, even if you have a faith and belief in Jesus, if you don’t have the same political views or challenge what discipleship looks like, you are ostracized. It’s hard because I end up feeling caught between two spaces. Both the church and the Bible studies love Jesus and both have their flaws but have become so polarized to each other it’s hard to see how they will reconcile. Sometimes I wonder if (especially for the younger generation) if they are in their “desert season” called out away from the noise so they can learn who God is for themselves. I think they will eventually want to come back to the body of the corporate church but they will need it to have grown and be somewhat different from the church they left.

I saw some comments about the church finances. Other than finances, I believe a lot of churches get discipleship, and outreach backwards. Many are so much more focused on outreach/evangelizing than they are discipling and truly caring for the body of Christ. The church building has become more of a hospital for the unbeliever (not saying unbelievers aren’t welcome at church) than it has a place where the body gathers, worships the Lord, is in prayer and fellowship. Events and announcements are geared more towards reaching the unbeliever than it is caring for and discipling the believer. Believers are pressured, if not guilt tripped into volunteering for the constant out reach programs, while their spiritual wellbeing is neglected, and many times they’re not being equipped to truly do outreach. Also many times we refer to each other and brothers and sisters (family) but we don’t actually get to know and care for each other on the level of “family”, it’s almost like saying I love you or I’m praying for you, but not truly meaning it.

Very interesting how you put out these videos at the time when people are using it to show the hypocrisy of American Christianity. Are you saying only American Christians are worthy of charity??

this is why it's said that the scriptures are like a sword and not to weild them until you know them. taking verse by verse to make a claim is not the way. you do more harm than good that way. same from others trying to make claims against the scriptures doing the same thing. easy to rebuke by showing in context what the verse means. also knowing the context of when the scriptures were written and how they pertained at the time is very important. make sure not to apply a 2025 view on the word when revelation was written in the 1st century a.d.

Bro this is a trash take disputed by every major theologian and the Pope himself! The only people using your interpretation are fringe reformed groups like Joel Webbon and Corey Mahler. It’s a trash theological take bordering on open heresy!
