One of my friends (older white male) got let go from the BOD at NVDIA a few years ago and replaced with a female executive. I think the conversation went something like “it’s the right thing to do” etc. But it was totally discrimination.

This is the wrong take away. The reason this is happening is because foreign labor whose legal status is tied to their job literally just work harder. They are depressing the labor market for other people because they are top performers because you have to be to be in this country. There’s a reason why a bunch of these CEOs are foreign born.

Born and raised in USA. I work in big tech. We prefer Americans to H1Bs because they tend to have better business acumen, communication, interpersonal skills and no visa issues to deal with. We pay the same. There just aren’t many that apply that are qualified. We pay $300k+ for 7yoe+ in data science

As an RN, I believe the c suite has created an artificial nursing shortage. American workers have left the field because of poor working conditions and they bring in mostly Filipinos willing to work for less under less than ideal conditions. It’s kind of led to a sort of death spiral for US born nurses.

But the unemployment rate has stayed very low? I still don’t see any evidence that foreign born workers are keeping Americans from working

Investment in ESG surged bc empirical evidence shows THEY MAKE MORE MONEY. It wasn’t for the sake of being woke. With few exceptions, they have better outcomes.

1. A growth rate of two vastly different size bases is misleading 2. This is brain draining other countries, good for US 3. As long as unemployment rate is low enough, which it likely is for H1B jobs, this won’t significantly lower wages and can even result in more opportunities due to specialization of labor

I’m going to throw in that as boomers retire the labor growth for native born would not grow that much along with the fact that many younger Americans are not in the labor pool

TMI but noticed this on the dating apps. Foreign born people in the US are doctors, surgeons, and have other high paying jobs as opposed to American born people on the dating apps

H1B holders are paid as contractors not as employees which makes them 40% to 50% less expensive than employees not having to pay benefits and payroll taxes.

You left out the most important part. The H1B is linked to one employer. The US worker can find a new job. The H1B cannot.

Legal immigrants are largely high skilled, very credentialed people who can afford to navigate the system. Naturally, they outcompete the broad spectrum of the native born public

Can I just say that when I see my peers get financial aid but also proclaim they hate America and anyone who supports, yet people like me who support it, no matter what happens have to pay what little money I have to put my through college.

what big tech company said they’re not hiring white guys? They would get sued like crazy if that was an actual policy. Trouble believing this happened
