@cbsnews: The flash floods that took over New York City on Monday evening, overwhelming subway platforms and turning roads into rivers, were record-breaking. The city saw its second-highest hourly rainfall rate, 2.07 inches — a mark only surpassed by Hurricane Ida-fueled storms in 2021. The third-highest record, the city said, was caused by a tropical storm just weeks before Ida. The deluge caused the city’s sewer system to bubble up with water, leading to significant subway delays. In one video, a train conductor can be heard telling passengers he couldn’t open the door, saying, “it’s not safe,” as water was seen overtaking the platform. “It is now the case that five of the most intense rainstorms in New York City’s history have taken place in the last four years,” NYC Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Rohit Aggarwala said Tuesday. “…Last night was one of the most intense rainstorms the system has dealt with.” #nyc #newyorkcity #weather #flood
