It’s no secret that pregnancy has been rough for me. Both times. Thrown up more times than I can count this time around for 9 months straight, and have had too many visits to the hospital being in desperate need of IV fluids. Hyperemesis Gravidarum- (HG) a diagnosis that is highly dismissed. By doctors, by nurses, and by so many who truly do not understand what it even is. “Oh, you have morning sickness?” “At least it’s just the first trimester” Mmm not exactly. The first 5 months were the most depressed I had ever been. Violently throwing up multiple times a day, everyday, and no matter how many times I expressed how much I was struggling to literally want to SEE another day, I wasn’t prescribed any medication to help for almost 4 months. It wasn’t until like a 3rd self-admitted visit to the hospital that I was taken seriously and a doctor finally acknowledged that I had HG. I had to jump through hoops for someone to listen. This was something I didn’t do for my first pregnancy because I didn’t know anything, and each nurse kept telling me to “just eat crackers” & “drink more water.” HG is your WHOLE PREGNANCY. And you have to come to terms with the fact that this is just how you’re going to feel for 9 months. While it does ease up a little, it does not go away. And it’s so, so hard to just go about your day like normal. But it has to become your new normal. HG steals the glow and the joy most are able to feel during pregnancy. I am extremely grateful, of course, to be pregnant again, and I am so thankful for Charlie and her sister to be. I know it’s always worth it in the end… but I can’t wait to finally be ME again FOR my kids and my husband.. and myself. And I want anyone who is struggling with HG to know you CAN advocate for yourself to medical professionals, even when they make you feel like you’re being dramatic. If something feels wrong internally- voice it, no matter how many times you have to in order for them to take you seriously and give you the help you need. 🫶🏼 #pregnancy #pregnancyrealness #motherhood
