Just one year ago, two Japanese climbers (Kazuya Hiraide and Kenro Nakajima) died in a fall while attempting to climb an unclimbed route on the west wall of K2. The incident was broadcast on TV in the form of "The Trail of Two Climbers." Of course, I never actually met him, but Nakajima was known to many Japanese people because he appeared on variety shows, and he had a friendly smile, so I couldn't believe it when I heard he had passed away. I felt a tightness in my heart when I found out that he had passed away, as he had written a message in his diary on that day saying, "I will definitely return alive."
