Yep. My Dad is a chronic pain sufferer. My childhood changed completely the day he started abusing his medication. I'd rather a Dad who had to hold back from doing certain things any day over what he put me through in active addiction.

my kids are my main reason for any healthy choices I make for myself because they benefit or hurt from whatever decisions I and their father/my husband makes.

When you have health issues it changes things. But NOT the same as as addiction.

You can’t be a good parent in active addiction at all. You can keep them alive and do basics but you can’t be a good attentive parent. Your addiction is your first priority and it shows in ways that aren’t always obvious to the addict but it is always noted by the kids.

BARS!!! two herniated disks, hip dysplasia in both hips, knees, sciatic nerve as well blah blah insert veteran problems here. It hurts when I do play with my boys especially my 8 yr old but I'll suffer later for it. Hurts more when I have to say no because I missed so much of the military and my toxic parenting but I have to sometimes cause I'm no good to em if I'm hurting it wont be enjoyable for them. That ego's a bitch to bad the things that will help kill that are considered "illegal". thanks GoVerNMenT.

Not me watching this in tears because I think the same thing about myself every single day!! I show up for them the best I can, but because of my injuries and chronic pain, I don’t show up for them the best that I could have, and that sucks. P.S. If you happen to figure out how to trade in our bodies for a new one, please let me know.

Pain management prescribed by my doctor (and taken only as prescribed) for debilitating chronic pain made me a better parent. Prior to it, my child had to see me crying, calling people for help unable to even stand at times, covered in sweat from the intensity of the pain.. that’s trauma for a kid. Now I do still have pain, but lessened enough to be able to play and do things in ways I wouldn’t be able to without it. It is an opioid, but it gives me the ability to be a parent. There’s a lot of harmful stigma and shame sent toward people in situations like me, so I can see where their comment came from and why it’s so important to differentiate the difference.

I have two surgeon my L4/L5/S1 vertebrae. I would recommend an inversion table to hang upside down. I know it’s off topic but I think ppl who have back issues should look into one instead of running to pills and stuff

you can take them as prescribed and still become physically addicted. I did drugs when I was younger but landing in the burn unit made me an true addict. you can do things "right" and still get physically addicted to opiates over time.. chronic pain would make that more true. mmt might be the long term way to go cuz people dont chase it the same way they do other opiates. it takes years and u need blood pressure etc meds to quit. if someone doesn't believe they are physically addicted then should stop and see if their body agrees after 24-48 hours. it took 2 years for me to ween down and stop methadone but it is possible.

Unrelated to addiction/med management kind of my husband has such a sensitive stomach pain management with meds isnt really an option. My husband has 3 herniated discs and has flare ups. When flare ups happen were talking needing assistance to get up, walker, cane, deep sciatica nerve root pain during flare up. idk your situation (surgery been done, ect) but after Dr appts, mri's, chiro, decompression therapy, physical therapy. We have a method for flare ups. Each flare up differs so different excerices are needed each time. 1st few days gentle nerve gliding twice a day laying down. Sciatica deep tissue massage twice a day (stay away from massage gun at first if you go over the irritated nerve you'll twitch and irritate it more), tens unit, ice pack. 2nd week get the sciatica ebook on Dr mark Ashley's website (free email) and try each excerice whatever doesn't cause a pinch is safe. Do them every 3 hrs each day and 3rd week add in the mcgill 3. We do much more in general but that's the tiktok comment gist is this helps anyone 🫶
