And if you witness something, be proactive about giving the woman your contact info! She might panic in the moment and not think to ask, or she might brush it off but later want to file a report, and having a witness helps so much.

It’s never a waste of time! I’m in London, a man put his hand up my skirt in a bar, I reported to a lovely bouncer who called the police. It turned out he was out on licence for rape at the time. he was sent back to prison for the remainder of his his sentence and got 2 years for assault on me! Some people were shocked I even bothered to report it but the same thing happened outside school when I was 13 and I will never forget the police saying how this more ‘minor’ assaults often lead to somethi by much bigger

She is right on everything except on 2 points. 1/ go to the police but try not to go alone, in many instances when alone the police diminished the events or worse had a sexist behaviour. 2/ NO, DO NOT FIGHT BACK if you are ALONE. If people are around then do but NEVER if you are ALONE. That could push the aggressor to commit something even worse.

always file a report! even if nothing comes from it immediately, if every single assault gets reported, the number of reported assaults will be higher and higher and politicians (and police) will have to acknowledge how big the problem is and do something
