This is exactly how I feel in regards to my dad and older brother. Unfortunately for him, raising me to be independent and focus on school caused me to be a “radical liberal” who prefers to be woke than racist.

This is an interesting perspective for me to see - I was raised in a Christian extremist cult, so this was all I ever knew. I can’t even imagine once good/loving parents BECOMING these monsters. 🥺

I feel they were always this way. Our political climate is encouraging them to finally take off those social gags & blinders they developed. The Conservatives have dropped all of their boundaries. I grew up in OK & NC. All of it was there and never left.

Any time my parents even *begin* to edge close to being a butt over political stuff, my immediate response is always "Well, who was it blasting folk and hippie people music in the truck when I was a kid?! Hmm? Don't raise a girl on Harry Chapin & then sit there surprised when she's afflicted with terminal compassion!" Anyway, my stepmama decided no political talk in the family & that's just fine with me. I told her, "That's probably a good idea. I'd hate for somebody's feelings to get hurt." 😂 (She's still technically a D, but she's "secretly" on that Boomer MAGA nonsense.)
