We just played up in Iowa for nationals, and one of our key bracket games got shorted by 5 minutes. We told the umpires that it was supposed to be 85 mins. They said no. We pushed, they said no. Apparently they had been playing all of their games at 80 minutes instead of 85. All. Day. They only realized after we brought in the UIC when our game was over.

had a ump send me back to the dugout because I wasn't allowed "whatever the device was on my leg" he was talking about my ankle brace... lowkey looked like a prosthetic for lower leg tbh. I needed it to walk at the time. took it off and immediately crumbled like a dandelion in a strong gust of wind.

bro i was pitching and had an ump this weekend that called no pitch on a batter bc she had her hand up for time but he didn’t have his hand up and when i said that all he said was “my bad”

We had an ump one time call an out because we had a girl slap in 8u & he said it wasn’t allowed (USFA - it is allowed). Our coach pushed back and he ended up calling the director of the tournament and had him on speaker and said, “8u can’t slap or bunt, correct?” And the director told him he was wrong and he said, “since when?!” when he got off the phone he apologized to our coach and said, “I’m sorry, I haven’t ump’d a USFA tournament in about a year” 😳 you mean you didn’t brush up on the rules before you came to this tournament?! I was thankful he reversed the call - but geez, learn the rules of the sanction you’re being paid to ump!

That’s how we as umpires also feel when coaches don’t read the tournament rules. Especially the courtesy runner!!

Had brand new umps come and ump our 10u game and they had to pull a sheet of paper with made up rules I was appalled

Currently coaching in Nationals and we've experienced so many rule changes and we've been playing under these rules all summer long. 😂

And in my son’s game, Runner running from 1st to 2nd kicks the ball. Ump calls him safe because he didn’t “intentionally” kick the ball. A dead ball was never called even though ump said he saw the “unintentional” kick of the ball so 2 runs scored. Umm what!? Does any runner intentionally kick the ball when they are base running? Intentional or not it’s a dead ball and runner is out.

We had a team arguing that there were 3 outs made in the inning and when our coach asked who they were saying struck out they just kept screaming “there’s 3 outs” at us, and pulled their team off the field to try to hit. Both umps had 2 outs on their clickers but let the arguing go on for a solid 5 minutes. I was just like what is going on? You’re the umps, you have 2 outs and the home team book shows 2. Let’s move on already

I love the umpires thay take the coaches emotion in to consideration before making a ruling. "Well she agreed to this consequence". that's great but not the rule🙄🙄

We had umps try to call the game a Run rule… we were up 8-0 in the TOP of the inning and called ball game once we scored 8… everyone was like, no you finish the inning lol…. They were like nope. They called the UIC over and he told them they were wrong.. and this is A level ball! Come on!

That’s my biggest gripe. No consistency. There are amazing umps out there and then there are others who take it as a power trip.

we had the host team coach complaining that they had 3 players that needed to leave the game early for a personal event. wanted us to take 3 off the roster because we couldn't start the game earlier to be done before they left. the game started at 3pm on a Thursday, she sent an email at 1:30 asking to start at 2:15. we said no, parents were already leaving work early and with this short notice it wasn't going to work. her response was thanks for being accommodating. the 3 players left w 2 min left in the game we were up 10-1. she told our coach this is why I wanted to start early 🤣🤣

Unless we are going to go with one set of rules with one organizing body and mandatory training foe umpires and coaches this is going to be a problem. And then you have to ban tournament directors from making up their own rules because they all have a better mouse trap.
