What does OCD really look like in kids? When my son was 3, we’d sit outside the grocery store for 30–45 minutes. He wasn’t being “difficult.” He was panicking. He needed to be the one to trigger the automatic doors. Every time someone walked in before him, it felt “wrong” in his brain—like something awful had just happened. He’d scream. Cry. Sometimes even vomit. But the moment he got to fix it—by opening the doors himself—he’d instantly calm. That’s how I knew this wasn’t just a meltdown. This was OCD. As a single mom of 3, I didn’t always have the luxury of turning around and going home. So I adapted. I started parking far away, watching the doors from a distance, and helping him find his moment of control. 👉 OCD in kids doesn’t always look like what you see in movies. It can be rituals, loops, distress over “unfinished” actions, or intense emotional responses to things that feel “off.” You’re not spoiling them by supporting their needs. You’re helping their brain feel safe enough to move forward. You’re doing an amazing job. 💛 #ocdinchildren #neurodivergentparenting #ParentingSupport #ocdawareness
