@emmaleighhowie: “Mrs. Howard, when are you going to become a real teacher?” 😅 #substituteteacher #teachersoftiktok #teachertok #wgunightowl #studentteacher #westerngovernorsuniversity
Long term subs have to have a teaching credential in that subject area!

No you’re not, I was a resident sub for two years too but to be a real teacher you need a credential and to be the teacher of record

My sis gets this everyday! We’re both teachers and she’s a sub in our building and ppl always ask when she’s going to be a real teacher! Good subs work harder than all of us! Love that you said this 💗

Our entire education system, especially the past five years, has survived because of amazing teachers willing to teach as short OR long term subs. You are a teacher, and you have extra skills to be able to gracefully come in and keep things running smoothly to support during shortages, maternity leaves, and serious illnesses. I’m sure your school is extremely grateful for what you do. 👍👌

Subbing is far more difficult than teaching. So.

No you’re a substitute teacher. Not a real teacher. I was a substitute teacher and never considered myself a real teacher even in long term assignments. Now I am an assistant teacher, not a real teacher. I don’t have the degrees and license to call myself that.

I have subbed for the last three years! I feel this! It take a lot of courage to walk into a room/school you don’t know and teach students you don’t know. I have loved my subbing year though.

Maybe people say that because in some places the responsibilities of a substitute teacher are not the same as a contracted teacher. Ours, even long-term, didn’t go to meetings or PD. The principal or department head worked closely with them and the sub teachers never did curriculum planning unless they were a retired teacher or had teacher credentials. We all helped support and take care of our long-term subs. 👍

No, I just have to know how to teach six grades instead of one and memorize the names of 300 kids instead of 25! But if you don’t consider that a real teacher that’s fine. 🙃🙃🙃

Me a reading specialist who went to grad school twice being called a teacher helper by a colleague. Like mam. I am a teacher with advanced degrees and years of experience. I teach students all day spanning 5 grade levels.

yeah, teaching all grades, knowing names of all the kids, working wherever they decide for the day. I bet it can be difficult! It's definitely teaching!

Im a sub and will always say im a sub but I've taught kinder to seniors and its different every day. It's harder not knowing the kids or getting to build a relationship with them. When I sub repeatedly in the same school/class and actually get to know the kids its so much easier cause they learn to respect me 😭😭😭

Reading the comments is weird. Splitting hairs or even using the term “real” to describe a teacher is super insulting. There can be different types of teachers who are all teachers, geez.
